Kia Ora, Aloha, Hello and Welcome back to Monday Mag!

This week we are touching into our indie and wanna-be hippie era as we chat about all things sustainability.

If you take fashion inspo from celebs like Emma Chamberlain this is your week. We gathered tips from Hamilton's most iconic thrifter Katie Owen, chatted shit about fast fashion and jammed out with our favourite groovy indie tunes - catch us at the Garden stage at Rhythm and Vines.

There is nothing better than a FILTHY bass line paired with production that makes you feel like you've been transported to the beach- acai bowl in hand and ready to go for a swim.

Tea of the Week is a weekly round-up of the juiciest tea and drama happening on the internet and around the world, so what’s happened this week?

What on earth is happening in the House of Commons… cheating… Trashton Thomson, and bro, Adam Levine sort your shit out!

This week follows a trend of cheating and it started with the first episode of The Kardashian’s second season. This episode carries on from season one as Kim finds out Tristan Thomson, Khloe’s boyfriend at the time, was having a baby with another woman. Khloe revealed to Kim in the new season that Thompson and herself were planning to have another baby via surrogate, and Thompson knew about this other baby but was still planning to have another baby with Khloe. In the recent episode, Khloe tells Kim she denied his proposal back in December but she didn't tell her family as she wasn't ready to talk about it. Once again, Khloe proves how diligent she is by overcoming these horrible situations.

Adam Levine, you are not our suugaaaar but add some to your tea because you’ve been exposed. The Maroon-five singer allegedly had a year-long affair with Sumner Stroh. Stroh dropped bombshell screenshots on TikTok four days after his supermodel wife, Behati Prinsloo, announced their pregnancy of their third baby. To make matters worse, Levine asked Stroh months after not talking if he could name his baby after her. Four other women have shared their interaction with Levine, although he denied these allegations in an Instagram story. There is now a Hashtag circulating... #exposeadamlevine.

Nobody expected this next cheating scandal. Ned Fulmer from the Youtube channel ‘The Try Guys” created his personality in the group around his marriage to his wife, Ariel.  However, in a scandalous turn of events, he cheated on his wife with an employee. The rest of the group is immediately doing damage control by shutting him out and taking Ariel’s side. We hope you're doing okay Ned, but Adultery isn’t something that should be on the Try Guy’s Youtube schedule.

Netflix dropped its newest film, Do Revenge, and just wow. If you’re wanting to be completely blown away by a shocking plot twist, this is your next obsession. The film stars a lot of familiar faces such as Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why), Austin Abrams (Euphoria) and Jonathan Davis (Outerbanks). The film carries a sense of nostalgia as it shares similarities with Mean Girls, Clueless, and Cruel intentions. The film revolves around the ‘it’ group at High School who turns on one of their own as “someone leaks her nudes” - def not her boyfriend. The stand-out performers are Austin Abrams and Maya Hawke. These two actors took on completely different roles from what we are used to seeing them portray. Abrams went from a shy nice guy in Euphoria, (despite his performance in the school play) to the hot popular guy who everyone wants to be.  Hawke once again slays the LGBTQ+ character but absolutely dominates the screen with boss bitch energy! If you haven’t seen this High School drama you have to add it to your list.

Back here in Aotearoa, the Tea continues…

Michael Hill Jewellers at The Base was robbed in broad daylight by seven masked and armed thieves. The group smashed cabinets and took what they could before running away. This horror moment was captured on TikTok by retailers watching in shock at the situation unfolding.

Costco opened thier first store in Auckland last Wednesday and according to a News Hub article the store “prompted hysteria similar to that evoked by boy bands and teen heartthrobs.” The store stocks everything from designer handbags, dumplings, homeware and even giant jars of pickles. The store is like Kmart and The Warehouse but on steroids with a Pak-n-Save attached.

Speaking of cheating, I'm cheating on myself with Cranberry and Apple tea from Healthaires. I committed to what I thought was my favourite tea, Raspberry and Lemon from Red Seal. But I am left confused. Both tea’s are the perfect cuppa before bed and are uniquely their own, I‘m completely torn between the two.

The amount of food waste in this country is shocking. Bestie, I see you with your carrots at the back of the fridge that look worse for wear, but what if I told you that you can still use them? I know… shocking. Hamilton is actually onto it for once, as Hamilton City Council offers food waste bins which collect scraps that go to Hampton Downs Power and Resource Recovery Center. The Scraps are transformed into compost which is used in gardens around Hamilton.

This week we are coming at you with none other than the 2021 Ethical Fashion Report. Here is a link to the entire report- but today we are going to hit you with the hard facts.

https://www.tearfund.org.nz/TEARFUND/media/TEARFund/efg/2021-Ethical-Fashion-Report.pdf

Overall, 20.5% of brands came out with an A or higher, a whopping 56% with a C and B, and at the bottom of the pile with a D and F average - 23.5%.

This is a big deal! Fashion is such a huge contributor to many of the modern-day issues we face.

FACTS:

Fashion is among the top 5 most exposed industries to modern slavery risk.

The fashion industry contributes up to 10% of global greenhouse emissions.

The average ethical score remains low at 33% out of 100.

Results time. Behold- the grades for all your favourite stores in 2021.

Now. As students, we understand that it feels near impossible to shop sustainably. Sustainable clothes = more time being made = significantly more expensive. But with these results, at least you'll know which brands to avoid with a five-foot pole. As if this whole magazine hasn't spoken about it enough,  second-hand shopping is one of the best ways to shop sustainably and affordably!

PS: remember to vote in your local election you lil rascals!

PPS: how are we spending our most recent cost of living payment? We brought sushi at bongo cafe…. Obviously an essential meal.
